What is Carnitine
?
Carnitine is important in the metabolism of fat and energy production within the body, and helps maintain normal heart, skeletal muscle and liver function.
Carnitine may also improve athletic ability. Some carnitine may be obtained from dietary sources, primarily meat since vegetables and fruit contain relatively little carnitine.
Athletes are most at risk from carnitine deficiency; vegetarians may also be at risk of carnitine deficiency if their diet contains low levels of lysine.
Carnitine supplements are available in several chemical forms- only the L-form of carnitine is biologically active (the D-form is inactive).
Carnitine levels are
reduced by a high fat diet, certain drugs (e.g. valproic acid
antibiotics) or metabolic stress. Carnitine is responsible for the transport of long chain fatty acids into mitochondria, where energy is produced within cells.
Carnitine acts in synergy with coenzyme Q10 in the metabolism of fatty acids during energy production.
Carnitine is required for the normal function of heart and skeletal muscle, since these tissues depend in particular on fatty acid oxidation as a source of energy. Carnitine may enhance tolerance to physical exercise. |
Who need's Bio Carnitine ? Athletes, in particular, need extra carnitine because their muscles work much harder. In fact, they risk working up a deficit because carnitine is excreted in urine during periods of intense physical exertion. The exertion factor plus the increased requirement on muscle tissue calls for a supplement.
Bio carnitme works well with Bio-Qinone QIO just like co-enzymeQIO, carnitine plays a central role in the energy metabolism of our cells. To begin with, camitine pumps fatly acids into the mitochondria) and then co-enzyme QIO converts the fatty acids into energy.
Carnitine is the "stoker", carrying fuel to the furnace. In addition, carnitine prevents the build-up of lactic acid in muscle tissue, which means athletes are able to perform longer with- out reaching their pain threshold.
About Pharma-Nord Bio Carnitine Each capsule of Pharma-Nord Bio-Carnitine contains 250mg of L-carnitine. Pharma-Nord recommends 1 tablet/day. Bio Carnitine is manufactured under Danish pharmaceutical control. This product is suitable for vegetarians.
Are there adverse effects from taking Carnitine ? Human studies have shown L-carnitine to be extremely safe and well tolerated, with no significant side effects. There are no known adverse drug interactions. The toxicity of carnitine is very low, with an LD50 of 9gm/Kg (equivalent to approximately 2500 tablets). The D-form of carnitine may cause adverse effects by interfering with the beneficial action of L-carnitine. |
