Homoeopathy is a complete system of
medicine, it treats the whole person not just the symptoms. Homoeopathic
remedies come from vegetable, animal and mineral sources, some of the unusual ingredients
range from cobra venom ! (do not try to mix your own) to salt. The remedies
are taken orally. Homoeopathy was developed by a Dr Hahnemann in the 18th
century.
The basic principles
of homeopathy were formulated by a German physician and pharmacist, Samuel
Hahnemann, in the late 1700's. By the 1920's, the use of homeopathic medicine by
concerned physicians was widespread. Today, licensed pharmacists in their '70s
recall the steps used to prepare homeopathic medicines to fill prescriptions
from respected physicians.
The Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938 recognized homeopathy as a
standard method of health care. Homeopathic medicines were considered drugs and
classified as either prescription or non-prescription (over-the-counter),
depending on the strength of their formulation.
It has been suggested that the practice of homeopathy declined, in part because
of incredible rise of the pharmaceutical industry after the Second World War and
the economics associated with patent protected chemical or genetic-based drugs.
It has also been suggested that the decline of homeopathy was linked in part to
an "image" problem. Physicians worried that the use of the pre-penicillin age
medicine would brand them as being "old fashioned."
This trend began to reverse during the 1980s as consumers questioned whether
treatments now considered "conventional" medicine, were truly delivering
"wellness." By 1996 a Norwegian study showed that attitudes by younger (and now
often female)doctors had changed dramatically. Of 1,434 doctors responsing to a
survey 7% said they would welcome collaboration with a homeopath and another 31%
reported that they would respond positively to a patient who wished to try
homeopathy
There are three principals behind the use of remedies, at first
glance some of the aspects of homeopathy are rather strange to say the
least, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Homeopathic
remedies stimulate the bodies natural healing powers, they are
administered in minute doses and have no known side effects.
Homeopathic remedies have be scientifically tested (not on animals)
and said to work.
3 Principals
Similia~
the
similimum is the prescription which causes the symptoms similar
to the
state of the patient like cures
like which is opposed tothe conntraria principal
where drugs are used that oppose the patients symptoms, the conntraria
approach is only used in homeopathic emergencies because it is
considered to be a short term approach which only masks the root of
the problem. It is possible while taking non-homeopathic drugs to also
be on a course of homeopathic medicine with the intention of reducing
the non-homeopathic drugs.
Simplex~
only one homeopathic remedy is to be used at once but that remedy may contain
several ingredients.
Minima~
this means the least amount of homeopathic
ingredients should be used for maximum effect, all doses must be
individual off the shelf remedies are too general in the amounts used.
A
remedy is made by taking a solution made of the crude substance which is
preserved in alcohol called the mother tincture, the solution is the diluted
down several times. It then turned into pill form they all look and taste the
same because they are all made with milk sugar lactose you can also take
them in liquid form. The remedies are very sensitive and should only be kept in
their original air tight containers. Don't eat or drink anything 15 mins before
or after taking the pills, the pills must be sucked not swallowed as soon as you
feel better discontinue the treatment. It is advisable to consult a homoeopath
for remedies rather than buy then over the counter.
How are the
Homoeopathic Medicines Prepared ?
The
homoeopathic medicines are prepared from a wide range of natural sources. Over
75% of the medicines origin from the vegetable kingdom, i.e. flowers, roots,
leaves and the juice.
The revolutionary
method of drug preparation in homoeopathy, called as Potentization, utilizes a
very minute quantity of the original drug substance.
A very small portion of any substance, say a drop of Surukuku snake venom, as
one part, is mixed with 99 parts of alcohol or distilled water. Some powerful
strokes are give to this mixture of about 100 drops/ml. It makes so called 1c
potency. Now, out of this 100 drops, one drop is taken and mixed with 99 drops
of alcohol, again to undergo the process of vigorous strokes, making the potency
2c. The process is continued higher level up to 30c, 200c, 1000c, 10000c, 50000c
and 100000c.
No material, only the medicinal power...
As you can realize, there is infinitesimal original drug substance in the higher
potency medicines. Actually it crosses the Avogadro's limit. There is no
detectable material in the potency higher than 24. What is left behind is the
power or energy of the medicine. One may call it dynamic power, which is capable
to induce definite changes in the body system to bring about the healing
process.
(NWCH) offers
training in Classical Homeopathy. The college was established in 1984 by Ernest
Roberts.
Ernest had a successful career in higher education, yet he had a passion about
the potential healing power of this alternative form of healthcare. He trained
as a homeopath and inspired others by setting up a successful homeopathic
practice and offering first-aid courses in homeopathy.
This was welcomed and well received by his students, so much so that there was a
demand for further training. The North West College was founded to provide
professional training to a standard recognised by the European and United
Kingdom Registering Bodies.
